From a friendship forged over a decade ago, and a natural love of sharing drinking tips with one another, Glassmates was born.
Jimmy, Nigel & Ortis have spent a lot of drinking time together, asking each other pressing questions of universe-spanning importance such as, “hey, what’s in your glass?”; “oi, what’s that you’re drinking?”, and; “have you tried this hard-to-pronounce Scotch?”. They came to find that their love of finding and enjoying the best-tasting alcoholic drinks that London bars had to offer, in the form of drams, straight pours and cocktails, was something that others were interested in.
As is the case with most great eureka moments, the idea of sharing this behaviour with the world came through what they like to refer to as a Blue and Cream Clarks Wallabees moment (if you listen to Wu-Tang you’ll get that reference) and so, over the past couple of years it has evolved to where they are now: with their much loved Thirst Thursday tasting sessions, which serves to take the tweed off of the traditional way that drinks tastings are presented. Plus, their recently launched Glassmates & the Chef dinner and drinks pairings which will also take the genre places it has never been before. Glassmates will to continue to evolve as you follow the boys around the world one glass at a time.
What’s their one line elevator pitch for all of this wonderful drinks exploration and shameless indulgence of the highest order? Well it goes something like this: “£10 on a rum and Coke can be spent towards a better taste experience”, and we have a number of fun, educational and interactive ways to help people do that”
“It’s not about what’s in your pocket, it’s about what’s in your glass” – Glassmates
