The Tributo series was launched in 2016 to celebrate the ‘unrivalled excellence’ of Cuban rum.
The 2021 edition of the Havana Club Tributo Collection is finished in wood-aged white port casks from the Douro Valley, Portugal, which already has me excited.
Designed to showcase the craft and expertise of the Maestros del Ron Cubano, created with reserves from previous Tributo releases, blended with a rum taken from a batch of 100 exclusive casks that have never been made available commercially.
On the nose, the rum is aromatic, with notes of molasses and plums giving way to raisins and more stone fruits. A touch of nutmeg makes this smel exactly like my Xmas cake fruits that I soak in rum and vermouth. The palate is exquisitely intense and complex, with more of the afore mentioned noseing notes now present on your tounge with great balance and texture in the mouth. There is an element of chocolate and more spice which truly makes this a delight to drink. The finish is deliciously smooth with a hint of tobacco and coffee.
Many will argue that it needs to be a slightly higher ABV but this is perfect as is.
With only 2500 bottles available worldwide, it may not be easy to get hold of but is definitely worth every penny.
